Dry tumbling is a mechanical surface finishing process.
It is typically used for the mechanical removal of substrate residues (particularly burrs) resulting from processes like forging or casting. It is particularly suitable for giving a surface finish to a large number of small components.
It is carried out by placing the parts inside a tumbler together with a suitable abrasive material.
Depending on the workpieces and the abrasive material used, different quantities and sizes of dust are generated.
